My first rule is comfort. Measure your dog's chest, neck, and back as directed by the individual product's chart. Check its materials and cut. Size labels aren't universal, and a bigger size isn't always the answer to the wrong shape.

A cool-weather layer and a raincoat do different jobs. Check what each product is actually designed for, and choose according to your individual dog's needs and the conditions. An outfit is never a reason to let your dog get too warm. Looking good should not require suffering for the photograph.
